Thomas W. Morris
Thomas W. Morris , a guest at Shenandoah Senior Living Community, formerly of West Oak Street, Shenandoah, died Wednesday night at the center.
Born in Shenandoah he was a son of the late Thomas and Nellie " Connors " Morris. He had been employed by PPL as the farm representative in the Hazleton/Pottsville area and later as the supervisor of system metering until his retirement in 1981 after 44 years of service.
He was a member of Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church, Shenandoah, where he served as a cantor and member of the church choir for numerous years and also organized and participated in the church minstrels. He was a member of A P Damato Post , Catholic War Vets, PPL Retirees and the Rum Dums.
Tom was a navy veteran of WW II where he served as a radar specialist assigned to the USS Missouri and was one of the few remaining members of the crew who were on the Missouri at the time of the signing of the peace treaty in Tokyo Bay.
He was preceded in death by his son Thomas E. in 1995 and also two sisters Mary O'Dell and Catherine Butler.
He is survived by his wife the former Mary " Rattigan " with whom he would have celebrated 71 years of marriage on Dec. 26th , two daughters Mary Ellen Morris, Blue Bell, Pa and Kathleen and her husband Richard Szczerbowicz, Shenandoah Heights, five grandchildren and three great-grand-daughters, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Walukiewicz-Oravitz-Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church, Shenandoah. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Friends may call at the funeral home, in Shenandoah, on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m..
