Thomas J. Malloy
Thomas J. Malloy , 80, died unexpectedly at his residence Wednesday morning.
Born in Mahanoy Plane, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Helen "Dubosky" Malloy. He had been employed as a school teacher in the Pottsville Area School District until his retirement.
Tom was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Frackville, and was active in all church functions and activities.
Tom graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Penn State University and continued his education at Bloomsburg University, where he received his Master's Degree in Education. Tom served as President of the local teacher's union and was a former member of the North Schuylkill School Board. He was also a RSVP volunteer, participating in their county wide pen-pal program.
Tom was an Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict and was active in many organizations including: the Frackville Lions Club, former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. James A. Hogan Council 2580, a life member of the Friendship Fire Company, Englewood, Frackville Senior Citizens and the Frackville Little League, where he served as manager of the team, Pizza Place. Tom was also a devout Penn State and Philadelphia Phillies fan, who enjoyed watching the games along side his grand-dog Bella.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sylvia "Cooper" Malloy in 1998 and also two sisters; Anna T. Malloy and Rosemary E. Wright.
Tom is survived by a daughter Carolyn, wife of Tony Tenaglia, parents of grandchildren Matthew Tenaglia and fiancé Shannon Shughart and Phil Tenaglia, Frackville; a son David and his wife Melissa Malloy, parents of grandchildren David Malloy and girlfriend Kristyn Rakus and Abby and Nick Malloy, Frackville. Tom is also survived by a sister, Lorraine Craig of Frackville.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Edward Essig as the celebrant. Interment with full military honors will be held in the parish cemetery, Englewood, Frackville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.
