Suzanne A. O'Neill

Suzanne "Sue" O'Neill , 73, of Gordon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27th at Providence Place in Pottsville.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Edgar and Gloria (Anderson) Bechtel. Sue was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Ashland.

Sue was a 1969 graduate of Pottsville High School. After graduation, she attended Penn State University receiving a bachelor's degree in Education.

Sue worked for North Schuylkill High School as an Art Teacher until her retirement.  She was elected as the mayor of Gordon and also to the North Schuylkill School District School Board, where she served for many years.

Sue was an avid animal lover and also volunteered at the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spent many summers vacationing in Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. O'Neill in 2008.

Sue is survived by her son, Sean O'Neill and his wife Kelsey of Gordon; her siblings: David (Alice) Bechtel, Pottsville; Ginger (Jim) Bartol, Pottsville; Barbara Bechtel, Gordon; Alicia Vadyak, Gordon; Kristine Bechtel (Tommy Higgins), Pottsville; Kimberly (Jonathan) Weinstock, Chester, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 6th from St. John's Episcopal Church, N. 13th St &, Market St, Ashland with her nephew, Rev. David Bechtel officiating. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held Thursday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.  Interment will follow the service at Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
