Stephen "Steve" Dura Sr
., 88, lifelong resident of Frackville passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian St., Pottsville.
Born in Frackville, he was a son of the late Michael and Kathryn Szlivka Dura. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the former American and Meridian bank in Frackville until his retirement.
Steve was a devout member of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Frackville.
He was a Navy Veteran having served during WWII and then later reenlisted with the Army, where he served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Frackville American Legion Post 398.
Steve was a sportsman, known for his hunting and fishing. He was an avid golfer and loved spending his time gardening and being outdoors feeding the birds and chipmunks. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven M. Dura in 2009 and five brothers: Michael, Peter, Joseph, Frank and Andrew Dura.
Steve is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claire S. Kacelowicz Dura; his two daughters: Darlene "Enie" Murphy, Harrisburg and her children Patrick and Timothy, Sharon and her husband Brenton Hake, Lancaster and their children Emily and Adam; his 3 grandchildren from his late son Steven, Michael and his wife Alva, Matt and his wife Ana and Mark Dura and their mother Carol Dura; his great-granddaughter Hailey; his sister Anne Gwasdacus of Avondale, PA and by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Frackville with V. Rev. James M. Jadick. Friends may call at the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville Monday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery in Englewood, Frackville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made, in Stephen's name, to the memorial fund of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church at 209 S. Lehigh Ave. Frackville, PA 17931
