Robert G. McCann

Robert G. McCann , 96, Manville NJ, passed away peacefully at Bridgeway Care and Rehab Center at Hillsborough.

Born in Mahanoy Plane PA, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Koppenhaver McCann. He worked as a lathe operator for Johns-Manville for 35 years before retiring in 1986.

Bob was a Proud United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II. He was one of the one of the last of the "Tin Can" Sailors. He was a longstanding member of both the VFW Post 2290 and the American Legion Post 304 of Manville.

Bob was especially proud of his Irish Heritage having family roots in County Armagh, Northern Ireland.   Bob enjoyed traveling especially to Las Vegas and also loved the horse track. Bob was a diehard Philly sports fan, having season tickets to both the Flyers and Eagles for many years.

Bob was known for his storytelling and his keen memory, having vivid recall of personal and historical events.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary English McCann; his sons: Gregory McCann and Robert F. McCann; his brothers: Carl, Gerald, Peter, James, and WW II Naval Casualty Fred McCann; his sisters: Grace Haberle and Mary Collins.

Bob is survived by his son James and his wife Kristen McCann, Hillsborough along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held for both Robert and his son Robert F. McCann on Tuesday June 15 ^th at 10:30 am from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville with Fr. Brian Miller officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 am until the time of service. Interment with military honors will be held at 1 pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
