IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Rick"
Murphy
December 5, 1955 – July 25, 2024
Richard S. Murphy
Richard S. "Murph" Murphy , 68, of Wilburton passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, at Emmanuel Hospice, Danville, with his family by his side.
Born in Ashland on December 1, 1955, he was a son of the late Eugene B. Murphy and LaRue Hoffman Murphy of Frackville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Rachel Murphy, his son Cody Murphy and his brother-in-law Allen E. Brennan.
Richard is survived by his sister Patricia M. Brennan, Pottsville, his brother Gene Murphy and his wife Jane, Allentown, his niece Seraphina Brennan and her husband Ames, Hartford, Connecticut, his grandchildren; Keira, Nova and Braedon and his two best friends Sean Gownley and Shane Shingara.
Rick was a man of many diverse talents. When he wasn't at work at the Mt. Carmel Cogen, he could often be found riding his dirt bike up on the mountain, a pastime that he continued throughout his life and one that he loved since he was a teenager.
Beyond the mountain trails he frequently turned his attention to antiques of all shapes and sizes. He avidly collected and refurbished vintage cast iron pans while restoring forgotten furniture for himself and others. He was a meticulous craftsman and took great pride in his work.
Finally he was an amazing cook. There was no recipe that he wouldn't tackle, from his " Sixty Garlic Clove Soup" to Cornish game hens.
He was greatly loved by his family and friends and the world will be a lesser place for his absence.
The family would like to greatly acknowledge the Geisinger Hospice team who cared for Rick during his illness. Bob, Amber and Danielle were our life raft throughout this incredibly difficult time.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Glioblastoma Foundation.
