Peter Murphy
, 66, Lewisberry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at Silver Stream Center, Spring House, PA.
Born in Queens, NY, he was a son of the late Patrick and Veronica Lynch Murphy. He had been employed as a Program Manager for Naval Support Activity, Mechanicsburg, until his retirement.
He was a devout member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg, where he volunteered for several church activities.
He was a graduate of Trinity High School and attended Harrisburg Area Community College before enlisting in the US Coast Guard during the Viet Nam war. He was an avid golfer. He volunteered as a coach for the New Cumberland Little League. Peter also enjoyed woodworking and bird watching but most of all he cherished spending time with his family and friends playing horseshoes and darts.
Peter is survived by his wife of 36 years Joyce (Keister) Murphy, his two sons Garrett Murphy, Dover, and Steven and his wife Tamara Murphy, Dillsburg, his daughter Jenny Murphy, Pittsburgh, his 3 grandchildren; Lauren Murphy and Liam and Molly Murphy also by 6 brothers; Michael, Kevin, Joseph and Patrick Murphy, all of New Cumberland, John Murphy, Pittsburgh and Brian Murphy, Carlisle, 3 sisters; Veronica Murphy, Camp Hill, Patricia wife of Larry Witte, Mechanicsburg and Maureen Murphy, New Cumberland also by several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial, for Peter, will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. Interment will follow mass at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be a viewing Monday from 9 a.m. until time of mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions, in Peter's name, be made to the Memorial Fund of the church.
