Paul Hutira, 103, former Frackville and Orwigsburg resident passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23rd at Providence Place in Pottsville.
Born on October 26, 1922 in Locust Valley, Barnsville to John and Anna Sako Hutira who emigrated from Czechoslovakia. Paul worked on the family farm in Locust Valley, in the coal mining industry and the Metropolitan Mirror and Glass Plant. At age 23, he met and married Delia Barnett and moved to the “big city” of Frackville. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle.
Paul enjoyed the simple things in life. With his farming roots, he could coax anything to grow in his garden and was well known for his peaches and garlic. If Heaven has a vegetable garden God will surely put Paul in charge. Paul was an avid hunter and excellent fisherman all his life. He enjoyed dancing polkas and Rock and Roll well into his 90s. At the age of 100, Paul discovered his artistic talent. Drawing, painting and coloring became a daily hobby for him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Delia in 2005; his sister Sue; brothers: John, Steve, Martin, and infants brothers, Joseph and Russell.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Anthony, Frackville; Phyllis (Chip) Dodd, Cary, NC and his son, Paul Hutira, Frackville; Grandchildren: Charles (Kimberly) Anthony, Brian (Rosalina) Anthony, Christin (Todd) Peterman, Jason (Ann) Hutira, and Tracy Hutira. Great grandchildren: Mitchel and Matthew Anthony, Deidre Anthony Anguiano, Lexi and Zach Peterman, Jack and Grace Hutira; great-great grandchildren, Bennett, Bailee and Poppy Anthony.
Relatives and friends are invited to Paul’s viewing on Monday, June 1st at 9 am followed by a service of celebration at 10 am at the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.
