Trooper First Class Michael E. Pahira Jr., 44, of Ashland, formerly of Frackville, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Born in Ashland, he was the beloved son of Michael and Patricia (McHale) Pahira of Ashland.
Mike was a 2001 graduate of North Schuylkill High School, where he distinguished himself both in the classroom and in athletics. A standout football player and wrestler, he captured a District Championship in wrestling. He continued his education at East Stroudsburg University, earning his bachelor's degree while competing as a member of the university's wrestling team.
Answering a lifelong calling to serve, Mike entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, graduating in 2007 as a proud member of the 124th Cadet Class. He began his distinguished career with the Pennsylvania State Police assigned to Troop N in Lehighton. He later transferred to Troop L in Schuylkill Haven, where he faithfully served as a patrol trooper before concluding his career as a Motor Carrier Enforcement Inspector. Throughout nearly two decades of service, Mike earned the respect and admiration of both his fellow troopers and the communities he so proudly protected. His unwavering integrity, professionalism, and commitment to public service reflected the very best of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Anna Mae Pahira; his maternal grandparents, William and Dorothy McHale; his aunt, Sherri McHale; and his uncle, Charles "Charlie" Pahira.
Surviving are his loving parents, Michael and Patti Pahira; his sister, Jen Buggy and her husband, Damian; his cherished nieces, Brielle and Brynn; his uncle, Bill McHale and his wife, Dee; his aunt, Patricia Forster and her husband, George; as well as many loving cousins, countless friends, and his brothers and sisters of the Pennsylvania State Police, who mourn the loss of a devoted colleague and friend.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium located at 15 Academy Lane, Ashland, with Monsignor William F. Glosser officiating.
