Mary Makara

Mary Makara , 97, Primrose, passed away peacefully Friday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill East, Pottsville.

Born in Branchdale, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Brek Kohut. She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Minersville.

Mary was a 1942 graduate of the former Reilly Township High School, Branchdale.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, homemaker and an excellent cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Makara Sr. in 1990 and a sister Anna Warhola.

She is survived by her four children: her daughter and caregiver, Patricia Makara, Primrose; a son, Andrew Makara and his wife Charlene, Primrose; a son, Anthony Makara and his wife Nancy, Fairfax, VA; a son, Dr. Jack Makara and his wife Kalina, Indiana, PA; her sister, Lorraine Lucas and her husband Paul, Fort Washington, MD; her loving grandchildren: Maria, Kathleen, Andrew, Dr. Michael Makara and his wife Sara, Matthew, Lauren and John Makara; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Divine Liturgy will be held for Mary from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, Minersville on Monday August 30 ^th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Fesniak, pastor. Friends and family are invited to her viewing at the Donald Butler Funeral Home, Minersville on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. A panachyda service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Interment will be held in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Guests attending the services are requested to wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions, in Mary's name, to the memorial fund of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 415 N. Front Street Minersville, PA 17954.
