Mary Makara
Mary Makara , 97, Primrose, passed away peacefully Friday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill East, Pottsville.
Born in Branchdale, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Brek Kohut. She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Minersville.
Mary was a 1942 graduate of the former Reilly Township High School, Branchdale.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, homemaker and an excellent cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Makara Sr. in 1990 and a sister Anna Warhola.
She is survived by her four children: her daughter and caregiver, Patricia Makara, Primrose; a son, Andrew Makara and his wife Charlene, Primrose; a son, Anthony Makara and his wife Nancy, Fairfax, VA; a son, Dr. Jack Makara and his wife Kalina, Indiana, PA; her sister, Lorraine Lucas and her husband Paul, Fort Washington, MD; her loving grandchildren: Maria, Kathleen, Andrew, Dr. Michael Makara and his wife Sara, Matthew, Lauren and John Makara; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Divine Liturgy will be held for Mary from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, Minersville on Monday August 30 th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Fesniak, pastor. Friends and family are invited to her viewing at the Donald Butler Funeral Home, Minersville on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. A panachyda service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Interment will be held in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Guests attending the services are requested to wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions, in Mary's name, to the memorial fund of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 415 N. Front Street Minersville, PA 17954.
