Kerry A. Long , 68, Girardville, passed away peacefully Thursday at home with his family at his side.

Born November 5, 1948, in Locustdale, he was the son of the late Melvin and Marie Henninger Long. He had been employed at Ashland State Hospital for many years.

Kerry loved to fish, hunt and pick mushrooms. He enjoyed the time he spent passing down his knowledge to his son and grandsons and loved the time he spent with his granddaughter and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Earl, Clifford and Melvin; four sisters: Janet Mooney, Patricia Kroh, Fayonne and Linda Long.

Kerry is survived by his wife Irene Balsavage Long, Girardville, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on May 18, 2017; a son, Kerry J. Long Sr. and his life partner Robin Stay-at-home, both of Port Carbon; three grandchildren: Alex Long, Kerry J. Long Jr., both of Girardville and Hannah K. Long, Hometown; Stepchildren: Leighanne Burns, Pottsville, Klorinda Hopi-Victoria, Smyrna, DE, Loni Weikel and partner Nicholas Baney, Port Carbon; great grandchildren: Morgan Reese Dinger, Ashland and Max Thomas Gallagher, Fountain Springs; Step great grandchildren: Taytum and Arya Baney, Port Carbon; Two brothers: Richard Long, Herkimer, N, Cletus Long and his wife Sandra of Hatboro; his brother-in-law Thomas Balsavage and his wife Kathy of Girardville and also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
