Joseph J. Joyce
Joseph Jerome Joyce , Girardville, devoted father, grandfather, friend, neighbor and family man, passed away peacefully Friday at his residence.
Born in Kulpmont he was a son of the late Joseph and Esther " Murray " Joyce. He had been employed as a lineman for Service Electric TV for 35 years, until his retirement.
He was an US Army Air Force veteran of the Korean war.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Girardville, American Legion Post # 309, IBEW Union, life member of Girard Hose Co # 1, ambulance association, Charter member of AOH, Jack Kehoe division #1, Knights of Columbus, Fr. Sheridan Council, Goodfellowship Club, Ashland and was an avid Notre Dame fan. Known as the " man behind the scenes " Joe volunteered his services, for over 40 years, to the former Cardinal Brennan community in numerous capacities whenever he was needed. He was a faithful member of the Boosters Club and the Athletic Association of Cardinal Brennan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 1994, four brothers; Raymond, Lawerance, Charles and Bernard Joyce and a sister Anne Youch.
Joe is survived by his four sons; Joseph and his wife Jule Anne Joyce, Kevin and his wife Colleen Joyce, Patrick and his wife Kathy Jean Joyce and Sean and his wife Karen Joyce, his two daughters; Maureen wife of Sean McCormick and Kathleen wife of William Delinsky, two brothers Jackie and Edward Joyce , his sister, Sister Elaine Joyce IHM also by his devoted companion Peg Scott, 15 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, many devoted friends and neighbors.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Girardville, with Rev. Edward B. Connolly, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph's cemetery, Fountain Springs. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday evening from 5 until 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions, in Joe's name, be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 1 Marie Hall Drive, Danville, PA 17821 or Trinity Academy, Shenandoah, PA 17976 or Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville, PA 17901
