Joseph V. Gudonis

Joseph V. Gudonis , 86, Girardville, died peacefully Wednesday at Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian Street, Pottsville, with his family at his side.

Born in Girardville he was a son of the late Bernard and Mildred Ambrose Gudonis. He had been employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Girardville, and was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Vincent's and served as the treasurer for over twenty years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a graduate of the former Girardville High School and a life member of Rangers Hose Co., Girardville, and the Girardville Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by a brother John Gudonis and a sister Violet Yanushefsky.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Theresa " Alshefski " , his four daughters; Ann Gudonis and Claire wife of Robert Aylward, both of Allentown, Rita wife of John Mulhern, Horsham and Marie wife of Terrence Mulhern, Warrington, his two sons; Joseph J. and his wife Joanie Gudonis, Frackville and Steven and his wife Mary Gudonis, Macungie, his 14 beloved grandchildren; Erik, Jackie and Jessie Aylward, Johnny, Mikey and Patrice Mulhern, Andrew and Ryan Gudonis, T.J. , Abbey and Jayne Mulhern, Steven Jr., Matthew and Connor Gudonis, a brother Albert Gudonis, Plymouth, MA and a sister Anna Bolusky, Gilberton, several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joseph at 11 a.m. on Saturday in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Girardville, with Rev. Edward B. Connolly, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Englewood, Frackville. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of mass. There will be no viewing, Friday evening.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions, in Joseph's name,  made to the Holy Name Society of St. Vincent DePaul Church, 2nd Street and E. Mahanoy Ave., Girardville, PA 17935.
