Obituary

Joseph Chabon

Joseph Chabon , 74, of Frackville, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 31, 1939, in Frackville, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Kathryn Yatcilla Chabon. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Maizeville. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Frackville High School.

Joseph strived to be an honest man and learned the value of hard work at a very young age, taking great pride in instilling this in his children as well. He retired from Acme Markets in 1994, having worked for 38 years. In 1970, he became an insurance agent for the Ukrainian National Association and was recognized with various awards for his success as a salesman. Upon his retirement, Joseph filled his days making beautifully hand-crafted woodwork and furniture, which serve as a legacy to his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading, gardening, mushroom picking (for Machanka, his favorite soup), and polka dancing.
His lifelong dance partner was Andrea Polatz Chabon, to whom he was married for 45 years on June 22nd.

He was a longtime member of the St. Michael's Club of Frackville, the American Slovak Ukrainian Russian Society (ASUR), the League of Ukrainian Catholics (LUC), and a life member of the Friendship Fire Company in Englewood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: William, John, Peter, Nicholas, and Peter Chabon; and his beloved dogs, Toots and Nikki.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Andrea, Frackville; three daughters, Tanya Meridionale and her husband, Robert, Frackville; Krista Malinoski and her husband, Gary, Lake Wynonah; and Ulana Malizia and her husband, Anthony, Conshohocken; five adored grandchildren, Johnny and Nicholas Meridionale; Julia and Adam Malinoski; and Luca Malizia (Baby Girl Malizia will join the family in December); a sister, Anna Pristash and her husband, Paul, Whitehall; sisters-in-law, Anne Chabon, Johnstown, and Mary Chabon, Georgia; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sullivan Funeral Home followed by Funeral Services at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville, with Rev. Roman Pitula officiating.
