Obituary

John Calvert Skinner

John Calvert Skinner , 57, formerly of Girardville, passed away peacefully on Friday evening surrounded by his family at Paoli Hospital.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was a son of Verney C. Goodman and the late Charles E. Skinner.

Cal graduated from Thomas Alva Edison High School with the Class of 1979 in Tulsa, OK. He worked as a journeyman ironworker for Local #7, Boston, MA. Among many buildings in the Boston metro area, he tied steel on the "A Street" section of the Big Dig. He was also one of the JIW's who erected the Boston Convention and Exposition Center in South Boston. Perhaps the pinnacle of his storied career would have been the few months he tied steel at the new World Trade Center on Lower Manhattan. Cal could tie "like the wind" and he could "tote rods" with the best of us!

Cal loved driving fast in his BMW's and booming his tunes just shy of blowing his speakers. He also loved his Boston sports teams the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. And them Noles, FSU for college football. He could shoot a mean stick, whether it be 8 ball or 9 ball, and you bess bring your A game if you challenged Cal. Golf and Fishing brought him great recreation, especially chasing "Shamu" all around the A hole in Girardville.

He was a man of many passions, he lived life fully and uninhibitedly, and whenever you were ever engaged with Cal, in anything, then it was full tilt engagement, 1,000%, all systems go!! There is nobody I have ever met who could boil your blood quicker or make you laugh harder than Cal, when he was on a roll. Very often the two extremes were within mere minutes of each other. His quick wit and tall tales have amused and amazed all of us who had the pleasure to know him~had the ability to comprehend his "Calisms."

We have lost one of the world's brightest lights, dimmed only by its own brilliance and in its own supra-intensity was extinguished far, far too soon. Rest easy my big baby bro and know how much we love you and miss you more!

In addition to his father, Cal was preceded in death by his daughters: Cara Joy Skinner and Amber McCracken; his son, Alex Skinner.

Cal is survived by his mother Verney Goodman; step-mother, Ingrid Skinner; his two sons: Chase and Tyler Skinner; his two daughters: Heather and Jenna Skinner; his three brothers: Jess and his wife Marcia Skinner, Josh and his wife Shena Skinner and Zac Skinner; his two sisters: Terri Leffers and Rachel Skinner; his grandchildren; his nephews: Kristopher Murphy and James Skinner and his nieces: Bethany and Cameron Skinner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Girardville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lavelle.
