John Edward Holleran

John Edward Holleran , 84, Fountain Springs, passed away Thursday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian St., Pottsville.

Born in Shamokin, December 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Edward and Eva Hubicki Holleran.

He attended Coal Township schools and was a 1949 graduate of the former CoalTownshipHigh School. He was a member of the gymnastic and baseball teams.

He was drafted into the Army in 1952 to 1954 having served in the Army artillery during the Korean War.

On January 9, 1954 he married the former Clare Marie Medalis in the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel, now Our Lady's of Mt. Carmel. They were married for 62 years.

He was a member of Annunciation BVM Catholic Church of St. Joseph's Parish, Frackville.

John was an active member of the Holy Name Society and devoted volunteer for the parish picnics. John was a life member of Frackville Elks Lodge #1533, life member and historian for the Frackville American Legion Post 398 and a member of the Frackville Area Senior Citizens. He was also a member of various amateur ham radio clubs.

John was a die hard Phillies fan even when they played poorly. He would refer to them as bums. He was an avid bird watcher and loved his family pets. His pastime was woodworking and making many wood pieces for his beloved family and friends.

He had been employed by Cleveland Brothers Caterpillar Co., Frackville for 39 years until his retirement in 1989.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Kevin Patrick in 1970 and Edward Mark Holleran in 2014.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Clare Marie Medalis; a son Dennis John and his wife Kathy Holleran, Kulpmont; three grandsons, who he greatly loved and adored, Tyler Kevin, Luke Michael and Alex John Holleran; a daughter-in-law, Joan Holleran of Fleetwood.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 am in Annunciation BVM Church, Frackville with Fr. Robert T. Finlan as the celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at Annunciation BVM Church on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm and on Monday from 10 am until time of mass.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions in John's name be made to the memorial fund of St. Joseph's Parish at 7 S. Broad Mountain Ave. Frackville, PA 17931 or to the Frackville Senior Citizens 130 E. Frack St. Frackville, PA 17931
