John R. Anthony

John R Anthony, 83, of Frackville passed away peacefully at home on Sunday January 9 th with his family by his side.

John was born September 9 th 1938 in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Charles V Anthony and Anna (Semick) Anthony. He was a graduate of West Mahonoy High School, class of 1956.

John started his career helping his father in the family furniture business. Later, he worked for Brokhoff Dairy, then he became a carpenter trained by Armstrong in home and industrial flooring installations.  He then spent the majority of his working career with PP&L in the construction division retiring after 25 years of service as a foreman.

Most of all John loved his church. He was a trustee at St Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church and could be counted on to help the maintenance and repairs of building systems. He enjoyed participating in various church activities including: building floats, making perogies, and annually playing St Nicholas at church celebrations.

John was known for his outstanding community service. He was an active member and trustee of the Frackville Senior Center, John served in the Army reserves for 11 years, life member of the Frackville Elks and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He often donated his time at local fundraisers making the homemade bean soup. John enjoyed Penn State football and was an antique car enthusiast and he enjoyed taking his wife Janice to classic automobiles shows.

John is survived by his wife Janice, celebrating 60 years of marriage in November. Sister In-Laws; Linda and Mary. Two sons; Mark and wife Barbro, John Tyler and his wife Karolina. Grandchildren; Nicolas, Dianna, Mia, Gianna, Blake and Kaia. Great grandchild Emmaline.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Anna. Brothers; Charles and Geary.

Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 am Friday January 14 th at St Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Frackville, with the Rev. Petro Zvarych as the celebrant.  Visitation will be prior to the Liturgy, starting at 9 am, in the church.  At the request of the family, due to Covid 19 infections, please wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions, in John's name, be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
