Janet Madden
Janet Madden , 92, lifelong resident of Ashland passed away on Saturday, July 13th at her home.
Born at home in Ashland, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen (Peiffer) Wewer.
Janet was a 1949 graduate of the former Ashland High School and was the proud recipient of the home-ec award. In her early days, she worked in her father's ice cream parlor and candy shop, the Roxy Theatre in Ashland, and also worked as a secretary at Reidler Mills in Ashland. Janet was a homemaker who dedicated her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook, baker and seamstress.
Janet was a longtime devoted member of the former St. Mauritius Church, Ashland and now St. Charles Borromeo Parish. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court Joan of Arc, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Cardinal Brennan Mother's Guild. She was proud of being a longtime Schuylkill County Voter for over 70 years never missing an election and also volunteered her time collecting for the Heart Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence V. Madden; her sisters: Dorothy Narcovich, Marie Kitsock and her twin sister Joanne Maloney; her brother, William Wewer; an infant son and her son-in-law, Mark Fanelli.
Janet is survived by her sons, Laurence Madden and his wife Susan of Wooster, OH; Thad Madden and his wife Shannon of Coatesville; her daughter, Amy Fanelli of Fountain Springs; her grandchildren: Colin (Jessica) Fanelli, Anthony (Colleen) Fanelli, Natalie Fanelli, Zoe Madden, Gavin, Maggie and Brooks Madden; her three great-grandchildren: Christian, Geno and Nico Fanelli; several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19th at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland with Rev. Robert Finlan as the celebrant. Friends are invited to her viewing at the church on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be held in St. Mauritius Catholic Cemetery, Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made, in Janet's name, to the memorial fund of St. Charles Borromeo Parish at 1115 Walnut Street, Ashland, PA 17921 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
