James J. Gownley

James J. " Rock " Gownley , 87, Girardville, died peacefully Friday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian St, Pottsville, with his family at his side.

Born in Lost Creek he was a son of the late James J. and Mary " Carey " Gownley. He had been employed , for several years, as a miner working at several local collieries, and was last employed by PennDot in the highway construction department.

He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Girardville.

He was a US Navy veteran of WW II , he was a life member of the Rangers Hose Co., and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Jack Kehoe Division 1, both of Girardville.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; Francis, Jack, Tony, Joseph, Ted and Robert Gownley.

The last member of his immediate family, Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Anna Mae ( McAndrew), his son James and daughter-in-law Karen Gownley, Harrisburg, his twin granddaughters Stella and Anna Gownley, several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Girardville, with Rev. Edward B. Connolly, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Englewood, Frackville. Friends may call at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass.
