Obituary

James Hughes, 71, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on June 23th surrounded by his loving family.

James was born in Wilkes Barre, PA to his loving parents Joseph Anthony Hughes Jr. and Helen Kathrine (Kocher) Hughes. 

James was raised in Dallas, PA with his six brothers and sisters. He graduated from Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School and then went on to become a master plumber, foreman, federal corrections officer, and expert marksman at FCI Schuylkill, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service.

James had a love for animals of all kinds, of note his dogs Ruger and Pal and his beloved African Grey Parrot, Obe. James was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and working on his farmette. He was a beloved older brother and friend, being the life of the party and the heart of many great stories. James was the family's storyteller and historian, known for his remarkable wealth of knowledge. From obscure facts and trivia answers to treasured family stories, he always seemed to have just the information you were looking for.

James was proceeded in death by his parents Joseph Anthony Hughes Jr. and Helen Kathrine (Kocher) Hughes, his older sister Eileen Ceicco and his younger brother Daniel Hughes. 

James was survived by his siblings Barbara Schwartz, Nancy Dukes, Mark (Teresa) Hughes, and Molly Hughes, along with his sister-in-law Pamela Hughes. Additionally, his very loved nieces and nephews Kylen Hughes, John Hughes, Connor (Ashlee) Hughes, Megan (Luke Malak) Hughes.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
