Francis J. Adamavage

Francis J. Adamavage , 89, Big Mine Run , Ashland, died unexpectedly Thursday at his residence.

Born in Big Mine Run he was a son of the late Joseph and Magdalene ( Shucavage ) Adamavage.

He graduated from Butler Twp.High School in 1943. After graduating he entered the Air Cadet Program of the US Army Air Force serving as an enlisted bombardier on B-17 ( Flying Fortress ) with the 390th Bomb Group based in England, completing 33 combat missions over Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt and Leipiz.

After being discharged in 1945 Frank entered East Stroudsburg Teachers College and graduated with his teaching degree in 1949. He taught at the former Butler Twp.High School until January of 1953. He then taught in the Shenandoah School District from 1953 until his retirement in 1982. He was an assistant football and basketball coach for Shenandoah from 1953 to 1962.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Girardville.

He was a U S Air Force veteran of WW II, life member of VFW, Ashland, member of Ashland American Legion Bernard J. Dolan Post 434 and Good Fellowship Club, Ashland. A great outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and pigeon racing and loved working in his garden. He won the National Homing Pigeon race in 1957.

He was preceded in death by brothers Anthony, Joseph and Andrew, his sisters; Helen Phifer, Sister Clarissa, Violet Murray, Albina Pascavage, Mary McGinley and Claire Fey.

Frank is survived by his sister Regina " Jean " Ford, Norristown, his nephew and caregiver Dennis and his wife Colleen McGinley, Locust Gap, also by the following nieces and nephews from the McGinley family; Bill, Joe, Lissa and Mary, Ford family; Regina, Ruth, Rosland, Ray, Robert and Randy, Fey family; Maria, Alice, Diane and Mike, Phifer family; Harry, Jerry, Jim, Judy, Frank and Janet, Murray Family; Jack, Elizabeth and Clarissa, Adamavage family; Mignon and Joanne. Pascavage family; Sharon, Debbie, Al, John, Bob and Tom, also by numerous grand-nephews and nieces.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Girardville, with Rev. Edward B. Connolly, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment, with military honors, will be in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Friends may call at the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Girardville, on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30.
