Edward J. Loftus

Edward J. Loftus , 80, Girardville, died peacefully Sunday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian Street, Pottsville, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He had been employed as a machinist for North American Rockwell, Reading, for 31 years and was last employed by the North Schuylkill School District.

Ed was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War having served on the USS Newport News as a radioman first class.

He was a member of the former Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church, Gordon.

He was preceded in death by a brother Gerard Loftus.

Ed is survived by his wife Rita M. ( Liskow ) Loftus, with whom he would have celebrated 59 years of marriage in April, his daughter Patricia wife of Robert Nunziata, La Plata, Md, his three grandchildren; Michael and his wife Therese Nunziata, Zara and her husband Adam Nave and Schyler and her husband Garrett Stillings, two great-granddaughters: Emily and Paige Nunziata and great-grandson Harvey Nave, who is expected any day; his three brothers; Francis G. Loftus, Conway, SC, Charles and his wife Sandy Loftus, Girardville and William and his wife Arlene Loftus also of Girardville, his sister Julia Shakespeare, New Cumberland, his sister-in-law Mae Loftus, Ashland and also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing and services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment, with full military honors, will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
