Daniel A. Weiderhold
Daniel A. Weiderhold , 87, Frackville, formerly of Minersville, died Sunday at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.
Born in Minersville, Feb. 16, 1924, he was a son of the late George W. and Martha M. Maurer Weiderhold.
He attended Minersville High School and served in the Army in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in Italy in Company L. 362nd Infantry Regiment of the 91st "Powder River" Division.
Dan was head custodian at Minersville High School until retiring in November 1987. (known to the students as "Weidie") He was previously employed by Nabisco.
He was a member of First Congregational Church, Minersville, and grew up as a member of Emanuel Church, Minersville, for which he served as an elder.
Dan was the oldest member of Minersville Fire and Rescue, formerly Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, Minersville, joining June 8, 1942.
He served as a Councilman and on the fire police for the borough of Minersville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, in 2008; three brothers, Raymond, George and James Weiderhold; seven sisters, Marion Thomas, Esther Spotts, Alice Weiderhold, Helen Griffiths, Grace Nettles, Martha Blackwell and Jean Pohronezny; a grandson, Edward James Doyle.
Surviving are daughters, Donna m. Doyle and her husband, James, Minersville; Linda E. Beecroft and her husband, Joseph, Frackville; sons, John G. Weiderhold and his wife Janet, Orwigsburg; Daniel A. Weiderhold and his wife Joan, Primrose; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
