Christina B. Pukas
Christina B. Pukas , 97, Frackville, passed away peacefully Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Schuylkill East, Pottsville.
Born in Frackville she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Labanosky Stefanowicz.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Frackville, where she served as organist and soloist for over 50 years. She was also the organist and soloist for the former Holy Ghost Polish National Catholic Church in Shenandoah and was also a member of the Schuylkill County Polish Choraleers.
She was a 1938 graduate of the former Frackville High School and was instrumental in organizing many of the class reunions. She graduated from McCann School of Business and worked as a legal secretary for Lawyer John Walesky, a short time for Montgomery Ward in Baltimore, MD before resettling in Frackville. After raising her family she worked as a secretary for Model Garment, Frackville, until her retirement. After retirement Christina enjoyed walking, water aerobics and painting classes with her friends. Word search was her favorite pastime in recent years. She always looked forward to visits from family and friends.
Christina was "one of a kind, generous lady" and will surely be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore J. in 1990 and by three brothers; Joseph, Adolph and Benjamin Stefanowicz.
Christina is survived by her son Theodore B. and his wife Kathy Pukas, Black Hawk, SD, her daughter Christine Zinno, Southport, NC, five grandchildren; Ted, Kat, Matt, Christiana and Elizabeth, five great-grandchildren; Annabelle, Michael, Nicholas, Zacharia and Gabriel, also by 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass, for Christina, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27th in St. John The Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Frackville, with Rev. Robert Plichta, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville. Friends may call at the church on Friday, October 27 th from 10 a.m. until time of mass.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions, in Christina's name , to either the Memorial Fund of St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church or to the Frackville Library.
