Albert E. Miller Sr ., 79, Girardville, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian St., Pottsville., after a lengthy illness.

Born in West Chester he was a son of the late Paul and Martha ( Preece ) Miller. He had been employed as a truck driver for Penn Dot until his retirement.

He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Girardville American Legion and Girard Hose Co. #1. After retiring he had been employed by Girardville Borough as a crossing guard at Main and Vine Sts..

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary ( Zemedas ) Miller in 1986 and a son Albert Jr. in 2006.

Al is survived by his son Anthony and his wife Denise Miller, Barnesville, his three grandchildren: Jamie Lynn and her husband Brad Welker, Tamaqua, Madison Miller and her fiancé Steven Hutnyan, Barnesville and John Miller, Millersville, his great-grandchildren; Mackenzie, Gavin and Sommer, his sister Sara Chrisman, Green Lane and his brother Allan Miller, Red Hill, also by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Girardville, with Rev. Edmund Brennan, officiating. Interment, with full military honors,  will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fountain Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
